The governing board of Southern California’s regional air quality agency voted 7-6 to fire its longstanding executive officer amid concerns from the board’s new Republican majority that the agency needs to be more business-friendly.
Executive Officer Barry Wallerstein had worked for the South Coast Air Quality Management District for more than 30 years and has been its top staffer since 1997.
